About The Chesapeake Alliance

The Chesapeake Alliance is a leadership forum for business and civic leaders committed to strengthening Chesapeake’s economic future and quality of life.

The Chesapeake Alliance was originally formed in 1996 to provide a collaborative voice for business leadership and community development in the City of Chesapeake.

In 2022, the organization was refreshed and relaunched, reaffirming its mission to support the city’s long-term economic growth, civic vitality and quality of life.

Alliance members are business owners, senior executives, and community leaders who have been actively involved in Chesapeake affairs for many years.

Their experience, institutional knowledge, and professional networks position the Alliance to thoughtfully engage in issues affecting the city’s future.

Many members serve in key civic leadership roles across the community, including appointments to the Chesapeake Economic Development Authority, Planning Commission, Hospital Authority and other organizations that help guide the city’s development.

By bringing together leaders from across business and civic life, the Alliance provides a forum for collaboration and informed discussion on issues that impact Chesapeake’s long-term prosperity.

The Alliance identifies important economic and community issues and addresses them through task-oriented work groups focused on research, dialogue and practical solutions.

Our Mission

The Chesapeake Alliance is a non-partisan organization
comprising business leaders and executives who reside or
work in Chesapeake. Dedicated to enhancing the City’s
well-being, the Alliance serves as a business advisory
group to the City Council and staff, providing insights and
opinions on key initiatives through policy-based
deliberations.

The Alliance also works with similar organizations in Virginia Beach (Virginia Beach Vision), Portsmouth (Portsmouth Partnership), and Norfolk (Greater Norfolk Corporation).  Leaders of these organizations meet periodically to share ideas and support each other on local issues that benefit all of south Hampton Roads.

The Alliance recognizes that Chesapeake is a community of sometimes conflicting elements including suburban and urban homes and commercial, agricultural, and industrial businesses that bring many benefits and many challenges.  The Alliance strives to accommodate these elements to make Chesapeake a better place.
